All About Me
I see you, you see me, we see us.
January 13, 2009
Kids love to look at themselves. And while I don't always love looking in the mirror there are plenty of occasions I can find where looking in a mirror can be fun. Add a little kid into the mix and mirrors can be even more fun. When you're out and about look for mirrors and reflective surfaces everywhere you go, in the store, in bathrooms, in restaurants and even in your car. I've given my Read more...
Mrs. goodbee spreads the love.
November 27, 2008
Not too long ago my church did a service project where we stuffed plastic baggies with hygiene essentials donated by the congregation. Not everyone read the specifics and so many items were donated that were not able to be used in the hygiene kits, for example, toothbrushes needed to be individually wrapped, if someone donated a three pack, they wouldn't fit into the specific hygiene kits. Shoo flu, don't bother me.
October 31, 2008
It's that magical time of year where people willingly line up and hand over money and insurance cards to be shot. Shot with the flu vaccine of course. Today my daughter and I headed out bright and early to avoid long lines and get our bandaid of honor from our annual flu shots. Actually, that's a lie, we skipped last year and WE PAID DEARLY. The flu is one of those illnesses where death looks Read more...
Dress up all over.
October 07, 2008
October is the month for dressing up. Dressing up allows kids to be whatever or whoever they want to be. While something as simple as a tie from Dad's closet or a pair of heels from Mom's little kids can take on a whole new personality. Of course all of us are aware of the tradition of dressing up for Halloween. However, many of us are not aware that there are a lot of people who do not Read more...
When two is better than one
September 23, 2008
We've all headed out the door with our children in tow off to some park, playground or out on a grand adventure. Sometimes being the grown up sidekick to a preschooler can be a little daunting. It's hard to tell an excited little kid that you can't go down that slide with them because, well, you won't fit down that slide comfortably. And trying to explain why digging in the dirt isn't real high Read more...
With love from snail mail.
September 19, 2008
With the introduction of blogs, email and telephones always at our fingertips the fine art of writing a letter has been lost. Not that your preschooler is ready or willing to sit down and write a letter to grandma or Uncle Todd, but chances are they will enjoy doing something grown up and something for someone else. Chances are letters will be sent back to your child, I know one grandma always Read more...
Sick of sick?
September 18, 2008
Now that preschool is back in session, so are the weird bugs that kids share. My daughter has her first official preschool sickness after an entire summer of health and way too much energy. While there's little you can do about your child sharing germs at school, you can be sure he or she knows the importance of hand washing, coughing or sneezing into their elbow with their head turned and using Read more...
Share schmare.
September 11, 2008
I don't like to share. Well, I do. But not all the time. So when it comes to teaching my daughter to share I've had to adopt a do as I do philosophy and what I need to do is share more. Teaching her the glories of sharing has given me a new understanding of the concept as well. People always say that you learn better when you have to teach, I believe this to be totally true with sharing. Savvy Read more...
Back to (pre)school pt. 2
September 02, 2008
Yesterday I talked about the glories of being the mom that sent their child to school with the FUN! HEALTHY! snacks. Today we'll be discussing first day of school jitters and how to overcome and deal with them. Now it's not going to be easy for me, my kid took to her first year of preschool like a fish to water. But there were plenty of other kids in her class that didn't do so well. Today Read more...
Back to (pre)school
August 21, 2008
Did you know that Savvy Source was originally started to gather together preschool information in major US cities all over the nation? See that link up there? The one that says "Preschools"? Did you know that if you were to click on that link you would get a comprehensive list of almost every preschool in the Indianapolis area? Not only that but most schools include addresses with maps, contact Read more...
Three days in and around Indianapolis: Day 1, Indianapolis Children's Museum
July 08, 2008
If you are coming to Indianapolis from anywhere in the state, the nation or the world with a preschooler you would be a fool not to go to the world's largest children's museum . Even us locals take out of towners here to impress them with five levels of " Why didn't they have this kind of stuff when I was a kid? " The best place I remember ever visiting as a kid was the Exploratorium in San Read more...
Summer comes in thousands of tiny flashes.
July 04, 2008
Coming from the West, seeing my first firefly last summer seemed to fill some sort of childhood dream that had been lost and ignored. I had always heard of fireflies, I even dreamed of catching dozens of them in a jar and reading by the light the tiny glowing insects put off. Of course I realize now as a grownup that fireflies don't put off a constant 20 watt glow, nor are they the warm fuzzy Read more...
A Mommy (or Daddy) Date in Downtown.
June 26, 2008
I had a lovely date with my daughter quite by accident yesterday afternoon and I'd like to share it with you. We started out by going to the downtown library. Have you been to the newly remodeled building? It's quite wonderous and lovely. We found our own little egg shaped chair along a sunny windowed wall and spent an hour or so reading books that she went and picked off the shelf herself. We Read more...
Finding the Perfect Place for the Perfect Birthday Party.
June 03, 2008
In theory it seems like hosting a party in your own backyard for a dozen little people would be a bargain compared to all those fancy parties offered at various locations throughout the city. After hosting three birthday parties myself, I'm here to say those fancy parties are worth looking into. After invitations, food, drinks, themed decorations and the joy that is keeping track of a dozen Read more...
99 things to do with your child in Indianapolis before they grow up.
May 29, 2008
Go to the Indy 500. See the city from the top of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument (stair climbing optional). Lie in the shade with a heap of ribs to share at Rib Fest. Cheer the runners from the sidelines at the Indianapolis Mini-Marathon. Brush up on your French for the French Market Festival. Take a bike ride down the Monon Trail. Sit in the splash zone at the dolphin show at the Read more...
Introduction. Hello, my name is Casey.
May 12, 2008
Uhg. This is the fourth time I've rewritten this introduction. My first one went something like I don't really like Indiana but gosh I sure hope I learn to like it since I've got this gig where I'm known as the City Expert of Indianapolis. Then I started to get outside my comfort zone and discover new places. My second draft sounded more optimistic, Well, I know I said I didn't like it here, but Read more...
