Animals

Creepies, crawlies and slitheries.

October 30, 2008

I don't care how old you are. It takes a special kind of person to not be creeped out by creepies, crawlies and slitheries. Thankfully a lot of children fall under this special category and if your child is one of them you'll be happy to know that there are some great upcoming events for the squeamish and not so squeamish. The Indianapolis Marion County Library System will have a touring exhibit  Read more...

Dress up all over.

October 07, 2008

October is the month for dressing up. Dressing up allows kids to be whatever or whoever they want to be. While something as simple as a tie from Dad's closet or a pair of heels from Mom's little kids can take on a whole new personality. Of course all of us are aware of the tradition of dressing up for Halloween. However, many of us are not aware that there are a lot of people who do not  Read more...

'tis the state fair season

August 07, 2008

Did you know that we have one of the largest state fairs in the nation right here in Indianapolis? Growing up we always made our annual trip to the state fair. My favorites as a kid still remain my favorites to this day. Where I grew up I even entered a few state fairs and won a few ribbons. To me the state fair seems to be a rite of passage for every family. Last year was our first year taking  Read more...

July 25, 2008

While the new tours offered at the Indianapolis Zoo are for older children (6-18) they need to be mentioned because they. are. awesome. How many times as a kid did you want to work at the zoo? Well, the zoo finally caught on and is offering "Adventure Tours" for kids ready to get up close with the animals and see what really goes on behind the scenes at the zoo. Staying cool at the zoo

July 11, 2008

If you're like most Indy families with small children you probably have an annual zoo membership. If you don't, know this, two visits in a year with parking for a family of four costs the same as an annual family pass. Just sayin'. If you already have an annual pass chances are you're a lot like we are and only use it during those fleeting moments of spring and in the too short fall. Let's face  Read more...

May 22, 2008

I'm not even going to pretend to know what I'm talking about on this one. I don't make it outside the county line very often much less an hour out. And with gas prices the way they are I don't want to send you on some hour long adventure only to have you get there, decide it stinks and never trust me again. So instead of five recommendations I will give you one I know wont disappoint you. And I  Read more...

Lions, tigers and bears, oh my! Discovering the wilderness of the urban jungle.

May 16, 2008

Animals have a way of attracting the attention of preschoolers and captivating their attention. And by captivating their attention I mean obsessively taking over every waking moment of their very being. Every kid seems to go through at least four of the major obsessions throughout the first five years of their life. Thankfully there are local places that will placate the obsession while it  Read more...

Book nooks for tots: best story times and reading rooms.

May 15, 2008

Finding a perfect bookstore can be as exciting as finding the perfect stylist. Or the perfect Caesar salad.
