A Green (and Very Tiny) Thumb

It's Easy Being Green, an Interview with Cheryl Tiegs.

January 26, 2009

A couple of weeks ago I had the priveledge to participate in a conference call with the legendary Cheryl Tiegs. Between the promotions she does for Cambria , a counter top manufacturer in her home state of Minnesota and her new show on ABC, True Beauty , a few of us were able to ask about she works green into her home everyday. Cheryl said she has been recycling for over 20 years, before it was  Read more...

Anderson orchard

September 04, 2008

Today my daughter and I found something even better than a farmers market.  A fried had recommended Anderson Orchard for the raspberries about a week ago. I called today and found out that pickings were pretty good so we headed down south to pick us some raspberries. Not only did we find raspberries, we were able to pick our own apples and purchase Indiana watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, sweet  Read more...

State fair part 2

August 13, 2008

Now that I have been to the state fair twice in the last three days and I am full of ribeye (holy cow worth staying in Indiana for) and elephant ear, I am back with some of the highlights my daughter and I found this year at the fair. The FAA building is full (FULL!) of hands on activities for kids. A play kitchen, a school bus, a fishing pond, a miniature golf course, an "underground" tunnel  Read more...

Prime time for farmers' markets

July 30, 2008

If you have picky eaters, a farmers' market could be just what you need to expose your entire family to new fruits, vegetables, herbs, breads and cheeses. It's also an excellent way to start teaching your children about staying local with what they eat and to appreciate fruits and vegetables in their season. I have a friend who always said "just because you can get strawberries in the winter  Read more...

Strawberry Season at Waterman's Farm Market.

June 04, 2008

Did someone say strawberry? No? Well I will. STRAWBERRY. Strawberry pie, strawberry jam, strawberry smoothies and strawberries with cream. With the economy making food more and more expensive it's time to teach our kids about local produce, and helping them to embrace what fresh tastes like, where their food comes from and appreciate the time of year when local produce comes into season. How to cultivate the tiniest green thumb.

May 19, 2008

Black. Yes. That is the color of my thumb, black. My daughter has brought home little pots from preschool filled with dirt and seeds and not a single one of them has grown. I had an herb garden last summer that promised it loved full sun. It lasted a week. I was promised I could grow paper whites. No, I could not grow paper whites. Whether or not black thumbs are genetic or not, chances are the  Read more...
